The craft

Three ways of making

Hand-Knotted

Knot by knot, months on the loom — the most enduring rug a hand can make.

Explore hand-knotted

Hand-Tufted

Drawn through canvas with a practiced hand. Plush, painterly, sooner to arrive.

Explore hand-tufted

Handwoven

Woven flat on wooden looms for a clean weave and a quiet surface.

Sculpted Forms

Rugs that leave the rectangle behind. Each silhouette is drawn on the loom, carved by hand, and bound edge by edge in our Bhadohi workshop — no two outlines ever quite alike.

In their homes

Quiet rooms, kind words

The rug arrived rolled in cloth, smelling faintly of wool. Three years on, it is the first thing guests ask about.

Meera, New Delhi

We measured twice and still called the atelier — they sketched our floor plan and chose the size with us. That kind of care is rare.

Arjun & Tara, Mumbai

You can feel where a hand has been. Our third RUGKARI piece, and each one quietly different.

Since 1980

Four generations at the loom

RUGKARI began with a single loom in Bhadohi. Today the same families of karigars — fathers and daughters, masters and apprentices — tie every knot that carries our name. We make slowly, in small numbers, and we stand behind each piece for a lifetime.

Handmade Rugs from Bhadohi — Hand-Knotted, Hand-Tufted & Handwoven

Hand-knotted rugs for the living room, bedroom and dining room

RUGKARI makes handmade rugs in Bhadohi, India's carpet capital, in pure New Zealand wool. Explore living room rugs, bedroom rugs and dining room rugs — each piece made to order by four generations of master karigars.

Choosing between hand-knotted, hand-tufted and handwoven

Hand-knotted rugs are tied knot by knot for heirloom durability. Hand-tufted rugs offer a plush pile and arrive sooner. Handwoven rugs are flatwoven on wooden looms for a clean, quiet surface.
